Holiday travel is a tradition many of us embrace in the coming weeks. Planning for road trips can make the journey smoother, more enjoyable, and safer for everyone on board.
To help you prepare, we've compiled checklists we rely on before hitting the road. Many stores also offer car safety and first aid kits, including many items from our lists.

Car Check Before Your Holiday Travels
Check the oil - when was the last time you had an oil change
Check the tire pressures. For most cars, the pressure is usually 35 - 40 psi, but if you are unsure, it is best to consult your owner's manual
Clean your windshield inside and out
Make sure you have enough windshield wiper fluid, and if you are traveling to where it is cold, have the fluid that is rated for cold weather and a can of de-icer
If you are a member of an automobile service, do you have your card or app up-to- date
Have any bottles of fluid you know are leaking and might need to be replaced during your trip

Car Safety Kit for Traveling
Have 2-3 bottles of water per person
Warm clothes such as hats, mittens, winter boots, some blankets, and rainwear
Hand or body warmers
Flashlight and extra batteries
Emergency blinking flashlights (one that can sit on top of the car roof) or several roadside reflectors
Small snow shovel to help keep exhaust free of snow accumulation
Snow brush big enough to keep the car clear of snow (car may need to be cleaned off regularly depending on how heavy snowfall is
